I installed a new 500gb drive and reinstalled XP pro. I took the old drive, a 160gb drive that had three partitions on it and tried to remove the partitions and make the drive a spare 160gb drive. I put the 160gb drive in a USB enclosure and with Partition Magic 8.5 proceeded to remove the partitions. Everything went well until I tried to format the last two partitions. I could not format the partition that had the old Windows directory on it because I could not delete the flash10b.ocx and flashutil10b.exe files. I got "Access Denied" error message. I went to properties and made sure I had full permissions on the files and I also tried a couple of removal programs (MoveOnBoot), but no luck. I tried to attach the drive to my laptop, same problem. How can I delete these programs?

Thanks,

MJT

If you are making it a single 160 MB drive, just remove all the partitions and create a new single partition. Then format the drive.

If you created a new partition, you are required to format the partition.

When reinstalling an OS, my preference is to install it to a freshly formatted drive. I usually "nuke and pave".

The only reason that you should be unable to delete a file, given that you have admin rights, is that something has the file open.

What's running that has the files open?
